*TRIXIE BLUE*
HOTB – How did you get into burlesque?
TB – A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, back in the ‘good ol’ days’ I idolised the likes of Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra in the scantily clad Baywatch to teenage years with glamour models Jordan and Jodie Marsh. I researched these wonderful ladies and I stumbled upon pictures of the earlier ‘pin ups’, such as the incredible Bettie Page.
When I discovered Ms Page, I realised there was more to her than the model and being the “Queen of pin ups” she also did something called burlesque and short fetish films! As a film graduate and a huge fan of anything taboo I continued my research on Page and burlesque.
Burlesque was then absent from my life until 7 years ago, when I was on a night out at Aspers Casino. I took a little trip to the powder room, I spied a poster for burlesque lessons!
Now I love burlesque so very much and have created House of Trixie Blue to channel this love for the art for others to enjoy. I have developed my burlesque knowledge by working towards a Masters of Research degree, specialising in Burlesque & the Burlesque film and graduated in 2015, with hair still intact haha!
HOTB – Who is your inspiration?
TB – I am inspired by every performer I meet because burlesque is incredibly personal and subjective that it takes a lot of guts to get out there and perform. If I was to choose my main source of inspiration, that would actually be my mum. We started burlesque together many moons ago and have even performed together!
My Mum aka Pamela De Ville, really knows her stuff about burlesque and inspires me with her innovative choreography, musicality and epic song choices.
Not only this, my Mum and her cousin perform as Lil Auld Ladies (the won the Funniest Flinger award at the Tea Time Tassel off this year – so proud).
Our enchantress Scarlet Rose continually inspires me by her innovative acts and love for burlesque. Scarlet is a breath of fresh air within the burlesque scene and has a keen business head – 100% babe!
I am inspired by all of our lovely burlesque students who attend classes week in, week out. All of these lovely ladies & gents have their own unique ways of interpreting burlesque and I am incredibly proud of them all.
HOTB – What is your favourite music to perform to?
TB -OOf how challenging is this question? My goodness! I feel sorry for everyone HOTB has interviewed in the past now haha. Well its gotta be Narcissistic Cannibal by Korn. I have loved this band forever and it is such a powerful song that really helps me to ‘boogie’ on down in me smalls.
HOTB – Do you have a favourite act? and why? (your own act and others)
TB – With regards to my own act, it would have to be Roxanne. This is because it is simple choreography, strong beats and I adore the costume (black dress with all the ruffles).
To choose another performers act is so difficult, however, as this beautiful act is a firm staple when introducing new students into the realm of burlesque, its gonna have to be Lou Lou D’Vil’s Sex on Legs. It is simply breathtaking.

HOTB – What is your favourite costume piece?
TB – PASTIES AND TASSELS FOR THE WIN! I always love to make (HOTB have our own burlesque accessory line – True Blue – http://bit.ly/HOTBTrueB) and wear them. They can be so beautiful or ridiculous. I have a large collection of them, ranging from paw prints, lips, cupcakes to Swarovski encrusted beauties.
HOTB – Tomato Sauce or Brown Sauce?
TB – Both together!!!!!!
HOTB – If you had a movie made about your life, who would play you?
TB – Can I say Ricky Gervais? I am gonna say Ricky Gervais! I choose Ricky for most things so why not play me in a movie about my life??? Tee hee heeeee or perhaps not.
HOTB – Is there any advice you would give to fledging performers?
TB – Be yourself and always be kind. Take ownership for your own development by researching acts, costume, make up, etiquette in the arts within an inch of your life. Respect others who have created opportunities for you to perform/produce/participate and the main thing TO HAVE A TON OF FUN.
